Slovenia European Region of Gastronomy 2021 is excited to announce their selection of the Young Chef finalist that will head to Galway, Ireland to compete in this year’s European Young Chef Award. Rok Žurman stunned judges with his innovative dish and won himself the position to represent the region in this year’s competition.
Rok Žurman is a 21 year old chef. Despite his current young age his journey in kitchen started when he was a very little kid, thanks to his uncle who gave him his first inspiration. It didn’t take long in the kitchen for him to immediately fall in love. He went on to finish 4 years of High School for Catering and Tourism in Ljubljana and is currently finishing the Vocational College for Catering and Tourism Bled. Rok has worked in several restaurants in Ljubljana and on several culinary events as well. He has also taken part in a couple of culinary competitions. He strongly follows the principles of zero waste and seasonal products efficiency and his interests include haute cuisine and seasonal recipes. Rok is looking forward to presenting what Slovenia and the Gorenjska region have to offer at this year’s European Young Chef Award.
The European Young Chef Award aims to showcase regional and local food products while contributing to raise awareness on healthy eating. It furthermore promotes food as a powerful tool able to re-connect rural and urban environments and to find smart solutions towards regional development through food production and sustainable hospitality industries.
